First Postmaster
E.C. Ferguson is appointed the first postmaster in 1863.
1888
Board of Trustees of Snohomish is organized
The Board of Trustees of the Village of Snohomish met at the demand of E.C. Ferguson, on April 17, 1888 for the purpose of organization. Mr. Ferguson was elected chairman by the board. They met again on April 19, and appointed H. Blackman as Chief of Police with a salary of $20 per month plus $2 per arrest.
1869
Isaac Cathcart comes to Snohomish
Isaac Cathcart emigrated from Ireland to Michigan when he was quite young. He came to Snohomish in 1869 and worked as a chopper in a logging camp. By 1872 he had earned enough to erect the Snohomish Exchange Hotel, a large, two story building costing $6,300. He made it a first class hotel and ran it for sixteen years.
